A band with taiko at its heart, Painted X-Ray* are taiko (Japanese drums, Georgie McGeown and Alison Roe), guitar (Jer Reid), bass (Ali Begbie) and violin (Rafe Fitzpatrick). Skins and strings basically.
Painted X-Ray are based in Glasgow and have toured in Scotland, England and Wales, including Wild Woods in Bradford, Nice’n’Sleazy’s in Glasgow, Henry’s Cellar bar in Edinburgh, and recently played at the Glad Cafe, Glasgow, as part of the 2018 Celtic Connections festival.
Painted X-Ray have played with Pikacyu*Makoto, Sound of Yell, Daikiri, Don Vito, The Brackish, FK Alexander, and Cucina Povera (amongst others) and share a collective rehearsal space at On The Corner studio in Glasgow’s East End with several bands including Breakfast Muff, Current Affairs and Joyce Delaney.
*We initially went by the name of Ilk (May 2016 – July 2018)
