Upcoming gigs 2020
UPDATE (17th March): All gigs in the next few months are cancelled. Obviously we don’t know yet about gigs later in the year. Stay well everyone!
We’re getting a few dates in the calendar now for the coming year. We’re playing at Scrap Antics in Dundee with Burd Ellen and Seth Bennett on Thursday 26th March, at The Blue Lamp in Aberdeen with Sound of Yell on Friday 27th March, followed by an afternoon gig at The Glad Cafe in Glasgow on the 28th March.
We’re also playing with Sound of Yell at Cafe Oto in London on the 1st August.
More details of these on our gigs page and more dates to follow…!
Gigs in central Scotland in December

Short film about taiko and Painted X-Ray
Meray Diner made a short film about Alison and Georgie playing taiko. Have a wee look:
Filmed and recorded by Meray Diner at GMAC Film, and Stereo, Glasgow, 20th September 2019.
Painted X-ray T-shirts
We now have our t-shirts available for sale online via Bandcamp. More details on Bandcamp and on our new merchandise page. As well as being exceptionally stylish, they’re ethically produced from fair trade organic cotton.
September gigs in the Central Belt
Also – not a Painted X-Ray gig but well worth a mention – Mugenkyo, the taiko group which Alison and Georgie originally trained and performed with, are doing a one-day taiko festival in Glasgow on the 7th September. Mugenkyo concerts are always high-energy and spectacular, and this one is going to be epic. There’ll be several hours of serious taiko action with former players from all over the UK joining Mugenkyo on stage, including Alison and Georgie. (Painted X-Ray were invited to do a slot but unfortunately some of us were unavailable.) A good way to get your taiko fix!
You can get tickets and more information here: Reverberations Festival at the Old Fruitmarket
Gigs in March: Scotland and England
We’re doing a wee run of gigs late March – dates confirmed so far are Glasgow (at Stereo) on Thursday 21st, Manchester (The Klondyke in Levenshulme) on Friday 22nd, London (The Old Baths in Hackney Wick) on Saturday 23rd, and Bristol (The Old England) on Sunday 24th.
Check our gigs page for details.
Mix the City is now LIVE
The Mix the City project which we’ve been involved with is now live online.
‘Mix the City’ is a British Council project where twelve musicians/bands are filmed in each city and (very) short excerpts of their music are put on the Mix the City platform, where they can then be mixed. Many other excellent Glasgow musicians are also on this (including musicians some of us have collaborated with on other projects) so you can’t fail to get a good mix.
We were filmed in April at the Barrowlands Ballroom in Glasgow’s East End, and project was officially launched on Friday 3rd August, with an outdoor concert in George Square in the middle of Glasgow.

Painted X-Ray gigs in Scotland in August
Painted X-Ray are playing in George Square, in the centre of Glasgow, on Friday 3rd August for the official launch of the ‘Mix the City’ project (see below).
We’re also playing at the Pianodrome in the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh on the 16th August, and at The Glad Cafe in Glasgow on the 18th August as part of their sixth birthday celebrations.
As ever, see our gigs page for all the details.
Painted X-Ray on Mix the City – Glasgow
‘Mix the City’ is a British Council project where twelve musicians/bands are filmed in each city and short excerpts of their music are put on the Mix the City platform, where they can then be mixed.
It’s a worldwide project and Glasgow’s the first UK city to be part of Mix the City, as part of the cultural programme for the 2018 European Championships, hosted by Glasgow and Berlin. We’re happy to be part of it and really enjoyed filming our wee bit in the Barrowlands last month.
The Mix the City platform doesn’t go live until July but in the meantime you can read more about it here:
